Introductory Course
If you are new to the sport and would like to take up paddling with us, you will need to attend our yearly introductory course which is an excellent way to learn the key skills for starting your paddling career. Our next introductory course, which has spaces, will start in the spring of 2026, mostly likely towards the end of April/ Early May. Keep an eye on this page and the website from the start of January 2026 for information on how to apply.
Each year the club runs a series of sessions for newcomers to the sport. These are suitable for adults and children (11-18 years). Every child must be closely supervised by a parent or guardian at all times during the session. All paddlers must be full members prior to the first session for insurance purposes.
The sessions start in the Spring with the first being on flat water (swimming pool, canal or lake). Subsequent sessions will be on the river, starting on the flat and progressing down to the rapids throughout the course.
By the summer you should have the confidence to join our club sessions on either a Wednesday or Thursday evening. You will then be encouraged to buy your own kit but you will be able to continue to borrow club kit until you are sure what is right for you.
