Interclubs 2024
On Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of September, 11 of Matlock's canoe club paddlers and 1 of Manchester canoe club paddlers made their way down to Bedford to race at Interclubs held at Viking Kayak Club. Interclubs is a two day weekend where 12 paddlers from a club, or a few from another club to help complete a team, compete in two races each day to try and get as little points as possible, 1 point for 1st place, 2 points for second place etc. The weekend was enjoyed by everyone, whether they were racing or supporting.
On Saturday, Steve Briggs (Vet), Tom Day (Div 2 K1M) and Daniel Pick (Div 3 K1M) raced in a team run, trying to navigate all 3 boats down the course at the same time. They had an amazing run, claiming 2nd place.
Also on Saturday, Laura Wardle (Vet), Eadie Whiting (Div 2 K1W) and Donna Hawkins (Div 3 K1W) raced in a team run and claimed a very impressive 6th place.
And finally for the team runs, Snakey and Mark Cast (C2), Miles Dyson (C1M) and Kimberly Davies (C1W) came an impressive 8th place.
While these Team Runs were going on Callum Lovatt (Div 1 K1M), Kevin Campbell (Prem Man) and Laura Wardle (Prem Woman) were all doing individual runs in their category. Callum came 9th out of 12, Kevin came 7th out of 12 and Laura came 9th out of 12. Well done to all 3 of them, and an extra well done to Laura for stepping up 2 divisions to complete the team.
On Sunday, everyone who raced in a team run on Saturday did an individual run on Sunday, and everyone who did a individual run on Sunday did a team run on Sunday.
Callum Lovatt (Div 1 K1M), Kevin Campbell (Prem Man) and Laura Wardle did a team run together and came a superb 8th place.
