Coached River Sessions 2017
The pool sessions will be ending after 6th April 2017, which means that we will then be taking beginners on to the river.
The plan this year is for up to 8 paddlers to have two 3 hour river sessions on alternative Saturdays with an AM and PM session. Each group having one 3 hour session each week.
Dates as follows
6th May AM Group 1 – PM Group 2
20th May AM Group 2 – PM Group 1
3rd June AM Group 3 – PM Group 4
17th June AM Group 4 – PM Group 3
Time: sessions will be held from 9.00 to 12.00 and 13.00 to 16.00 on Saturdays.
Venue: at the Matlock Bath Artist Corner Car park.
Session Duration: The sessions will last for 3 hour and this is an ideal opportunity to transfer from the pool to learn canoeing on the river for the first time, or if you are already a paddler come along to learn and practice those strokes.
Coaching Stile: The sessions will be formally coached.
Equipment: The club will provide a boat, paddle, spray deck, helmet, buoyancy aid it will be the responsibility of the paddler to ware appropriate canoeing clothing for the cold weather environment (No hooded waterproof coats).
Allow 30 minutes to get changed before and after your session. The water will be cold so dress appropriately (No hooded waterproof coats).
There will be volunteers on hand who will be pleased to help with the techniques of canoeing. If you are a new beginner, then please read the information on the ‘How to Join’ page before coming down to the River.
All paddlers must be full members prior to the first session for insurance purposes, Join or check for your valid membership on our Membership page
The cost of the river sessions; 2 x 3 hour blocks (with equipment provided) is: £36.00
The cost of the river sessions 2 x 3 hour blocks (own equipment(boat paddle,spray deck, helmet, buoyancy aid and appropriate canoeing clothing) is: £30.00
The invitation goes out to all current and previous pool session paddlers and new river confident members. There is a waiting list so book early. Contact Hannah Matchett on RiverMatlockCC@gmail.com to book a place.
To help the session run smoothly, the Club would like the first group of paddlers/helpers (AM) to help to remove the boats from the river store to the river side at Artist Corner before the session starts and second group (PM) return them into the river store at the bottom of the Slalom site after the session. The store will be open from 8.00 am
